As the using conditions of steel ladle is different, the requirement for selection of steel ladle refractories is also not necessarily the same, and there also existe differences in service life of linings.   Steel ladle is a critical equipment of steelmaking-continuous casting process, which is separated into ingot casting ladle and continuous casting ladle.

  1. Ingot casting ladle

 

  (1) Ladle of EAF

 

  Permanent layer: fireclay bricks, agalmatolite bricks;

 

  Working layer: alumina-magnesia-carbon bricks;

 

  Monolithic refractory materials: Al₂O₃-MgO-C well blocks for purging plug of ladle, silica-based stuffing sand, Al₂O₃-MgO refractory mortar.

 

  (2) Ladle of converters

 

  Permanent layer: calcium silicate boards, high-alumina refractory castables;

 

  Working layer:Al₂O₃-MgO refractory castables;

 

  Monolithic refractory materials: Al₂O₃-MgO-C well blocks for purging plug of ladle, silica-based stuffing sand.

 

  2. Continuous casting ladle

 

  (1) Ladle of EAF

 

  Slag line: magnesia carbon bricks;

 

  Ladle bottom: magnesia carbon bricks, alumina magnesia spinel bricks, magnesia dolomite carbon bricks, alumina-magnesia unburned bricks, unburned high-alumina bricks;

 

  Barrel: magnesia carbon bricks, alumina-magnesia-carbon bricks, magnesia dolomite carbon bricks, alumina-magnesia unburned bricks, unburned high-alumina bricks.

 

  (2) Ladle of converters

 

  For small sized ladle, alumina-magnesia refractory castables are generally used as integral permanent linings.

 

  With large and medium-sized ladle, Al₂O₃-MgO or alumina magnesia spinel castables is used as working linings for barrel and bottom.

 

  Slag line is built by magnesia carbon bricks.
