Mullite bricks have two types: sintered mullite bricks and fused mullite bricks.

　　Sintered mullite bricks use high alumina sintered bauxite as raw materials, adding a small amount of clay or bauxite as binder, pressed by forming and sintering.

　　Fused mullite bricks use bauxite, aluminum oxide and refractory clay as raw material, adding fine-grained charcoal or coke as reducing agent, and produced by forming and reduction smelting.

　　Compared with sintered mullite bricks, fused mullite bricks have larger crystal and higher thermal shock resistance.

　　Mullite bricks offer high density, low porosity, good hot strength and good sag resistance. Additionally, mullite bricks also have advantage of high quality and good chemical corrosion resistance.

　　Sintered mullite bricks can be used in the lower temperature area of glass melting furnace, such as the middle and lower part of regenerator, because of high temperature strength and good thermal shock resistance.

　　Fused mullite bricks are used for high temperature area of glass melting furnace, such as port, the upper part of regenerator, because of good resistance to alkali vapor corrosion.
